Explore Ghana
The Volta Region is where Ghana's crafts are still made in the open, by hand, in the places people live. Come here and you can watch a weaver work a narrow loom at Tafi Abuife Kente Weaving Village, see pots shaped and smoke-blackened at the Kpando Pottery Fesi Shed, or stop beside the Accra–Aflao highway at Vume, where household pottery is made and set out for sale. At Peki Craft Village, artisans make and repair drums; at Liati Wote, the Clean & Green Hub turns recovered plastic into goods sold at the Nuku Arts shop.
What these places share is that they are working communities rather than staged attractions, and most welcome visitors through community tourism. They differ in craft and in character. Kente weaving belongs to Tafi Abuife, Kpetoe and Agortime Akpokope, where T.Y. Kente Weaving Enterprise has been producing cloth and woven goods since 1992. Pottery belongs to Vume, Fesi and Kpando. Some are long-established workshops; Kente Village Kpetoe is a planned weaving and cultural tourism project that is still uncompleted, so it is not an operating attraction.
Good to know
Plan around a single craft rather than trying to see everything at once, as these sites are spread across several districts of the Volta Region. Many are roadside or village workshops, so it is worth checking ahead that someone will be working when you arrive, and asking before you photograph people at work. Take cash for direct purchases from weavers and potters. If you are travelling the Accra–Aflao highway, Vume is an easy pause; the weaving villages around Kpetoe and Agortime Akpokope sit together, and Fesi and Kpando are close enough to pair. Treat Kente Village Kpetoe as a project site, not a visit.
