About Peki Craft Village
Peki Craft Village is a roadside craft centre at Peki Anyensu in the South Dayi District of Ghana's Volta Region, set on the eastern corridor road. It is a working craft site rather than a staged attraction: artisans there make drums used in dance forms including Agbadza, Kpanlogo, Kinka and Atsiagbekor, and also repair and rehabilitate old and multifunctional drums.
The centre has a long local history. It was built in 1970 and, as reported in 2019, provided employment for more than 500 young people. Its position on the eastern corridor road has made it an increasingly significant stop for travellers passing through the district.
The South Dayi District Assembly's 2021 composite budget narrative statement treats tourism as a poorly explored industry in the district and names "the Craft village and refuge cave at Peki" among its identifiable tourism potentials, alongside Peki Dzake Slave Cave and the Volta Lake. That official listing is the clearest confirmation that the site is recognised as a district-level cultural and community tourism asset.
In 2019 the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, said plans were far advanced to convert the roadside craft centre into a highway rest stop and cultural craft village, with the aim of making it a tourist centre and creating employment for local youth. Those plans were reported as proposals, not completed works.
Reported challenges at the time included lack of market for products, lack of raw materials, no proper workshop, and expensive tools. Visitors should therefore treat this as a modest, functioning craft site rather than a developed visitor facility.
Practical details are limited. No opening hours, entrance fees, guided-tour arrangements, or booking contacts are established in the available sources, and the site's current condition after the 2019 reporting is unknown. Travellers should plan around the eastern corridor road route through Peki Anyensu and confirm access locally before making a special journey.
