Explore Ghana
The Volta Region gives you two kinds of water in one trip. Along the coast, resorts sit on the open sea at Keta, Anloga and Denu, where the sand runs long and the surf is always audible. Inland, the lower Volta River widens into a calm, green waterway, and the resorts at Sogakope and near Anyanui face that quieter shore instead. Whichever you choose, these places share a relaxed, outdoors-first character: pools, beach or river bars, boat trips and space for children to run.
They differ mostly in style and setting. Aborigines Beach Resort in Keta is the liveliest family option, with a pool, water sports centre and even a petting zoo, while Eli Boutique Hotel and Beach Resort nearby offers fifty rooms and conference facilities. Emancipation Beach Resort, behind Fort Prinzenstein, keeps things rustic with reed huts and camping. On the river, Villa Cisneros Resort and Spa, Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm and Sogakope Beach Resort & Spa lean towards comfort and wellness, and The Chill River Resort at Tunu near Anyanui sits close to the estuary. Meet Me There Eco Lodge at Dzita is a not-for-profit stay, and Reddington Beach Resort at Whuti, South Beach Resort at Adafienu-Denu and Lalana Beach Resort at Anloga round out the coastal choices.
Good to know
Plan around the water you want: coastal Keta, Anloga and Denu for surf and long beaches, Sogakope and Anyanui for calm river views and boat trips. The coast and the river are separate stretches, so pick one base rather than trying to cover both in a day. Several places ask for advance booking, and Meet Me There Eco Lodge is open to lodging guests only with reservations, so confirm before you travel. Check current room types, facilities and whether meals are included, as these vary widely, from camping pitches to all-inclusive packages. Ask about boat trips, spa treatments and conference space when you book, and bring sun protection and cash for smaller stops.
