About Kente Village Kpetoe
Kente Village Kpetoe is a planned kente weaving centre and cultural tourism project at Kpetoe, the capital of the Agotime-Ziope District in Ghana's Volta Region. It is not an operating visitor attraction, and travellers should not plan a visit expecting a finished facility, opening hours, or on-site services.
The project was announced by Tourism Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare at the 2016 Agbamevorza (Kente) Festival durbar, where she said government was committed to constructing a Kente Village at Kpetoe to create jobs and boost eco-tourism. The stated aims were to preserve kente's cultural heritage, serve as a one-stop shop for the fabric, and let people learn about kente cloth.
In January 2022, the development initiative 100K for Ghana was reported to be constructing a weaving centre for kente at Kpetoe. The Konor of the Agortime Traditional Area, Nene Nuer Keteku IV, said the traditional area would partner with the project. By August 2025, however, the Konor publicly appealed to government to complete "stalled projects such as the Kente Village Project", and the Tourism Minister pledged commitment to developing the Agotime Kente Village into a world-class tourist attraction. The scheme's status therefore remains unresolved rather than complete.
Kpetoe itself is the district capital, lying on the Ghana-Togo border roughly 22–25 km east of Ho along the Ho–Aflao highway. No precise coordinates for the Kente Village site were found, so the exact location of any works could not be verified.
What draws visitors to Kpetoe is the weaving tradition rather than the project: the town is described as having one of Ghana's highest concentrations of kente weavers, and the annual Agbamevorza Kente Festival is held there. Anyone interested in kente is better served by the town's existing weaving activity and festival than by the unfinished development. Practical details such as fees, opening times, and guided access are unknown.
