About Fesi Pottery Village

Fesi Pottery Village is a pottery and ceramic craft site at Fesi, in the Kpando Municipal area of Ghana's Volta Region. The Kpando Municipal Assembly lists it among the municipality's tourism and cultural heritage assets, alongside the Kpando Torkor lake-side and mountain views, and cites potential for cultural tourism investment. The Assembly's own office address is at Fesi, which confirms the locality.

The site is associated with Kpando Pottery Fesi Shed, a women's pottery group at Fesi. The fair-trade marketplace NOVICA quotes the group describing its origins: "Kpando Fesi Pottery was founded with 35 women in 1998 as an adult education group for women living in communities in the Volta region of Ghana." NOVICA also quotes the group's stated goal "to educate the younger generation of women and train them to craft pottery so they can continue the tradition, which is a main source of income for the community."

For a visitor, the interest here is working craft rather than a formal attraction. A 2008 volunteer account describes the Fesi pottery shed as a workplace where women, children and grandchildren work in pottery, with a work day starting around 10 and ending between 3 and 5. A tour operator page states that ceramic industries producing pottery, roofing tiles, glazed cups and plates and other ceramic products can be located at Kpando (Fesi).

Expectations should be modest and flexible. A 2009 visitor blog describes difficulty locating the Fesi pottery shed and finding someone with the key to the shop, with flawed and unfinished pieces visible outside. That account is dated, but it suggests the shed is not a staffed, signposted visitor facility.

Kpando Municipal is described by the Assembly as centrally located in the Volta corridor connecting northern and southern trade routes, and as a gateway to Lake Volta, with access to the nearby urban centres of Ho, Hohoe and Dambai. No opening hours, entry fees, guided tour arrangements or coordinates are documented in the available sources, so these should be confirmed locally before travelling.
