About Ote Falls

Ote Falls, also written Amedzofe Falls or Amezofe waterfall, is a multi-tiered waterfall in the forest above Amedzofe, a mountain town in the Ho West District of Ghana's Volta Region. Amedzofe is described as Ghana's highest human settlement, sitting at approximately 677 m (2,220 ft) above sea level, and the falls are described as an 80-metre multi-tiered waterfall hidden in tropical forest.

The water arrives in several tiers rather than a single drop, and the surrounding forest is noted for birds, butterflies and varied plant life. A suspended canopy walkway above the waterfall gives visitors a view of the water and the forest around it; it is reached by a forest trail that includes 259 steps on the descent.

Getting there begins with reaching Amedzofe, which travellers do via the Accra–Ho road through Hohoe. From the town it is a short drive to the trailhead, where the hike starts. The walk is rated moderately challenging and takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on pace.

Amedzofe itself has a German missionary history, and several other sites lie close by: Mount Gemi about 2 km away, Ayafie Waterfall about 3 km away, and the Old EP Church, dating to 1889, about 1 km away.

The cooler, drier months from November to March are suggested for a visit, when the trail is less slippery. Practical details such as opening hours, fees, guides and on-site facilities are not confirmed by the sources consulted, so visitors should treat those as unknown rather than assume them.
