About Abadzeme Falls

Abadzeme Falls is a waterfall in the Volta Region of Ghana, listed by Touring Ghana among the region's waterfalls as "Amedzofe – Abadzeme falls" and set in a wooded, mountainous landscape. It is associated with Amedzofe, a village in Ho West District at the foot of Mt. Gemi, described as the highest habitable settlement in Ghana at over 600 m.

The waterfall in the Amedzofe valley is more commonly documented as Ote Falls, also called Amedzofe Falls, a multi-tiered cascade with an approximate height of 80 m. The exact relationship between the name "Abadzeme" and "Ote Falls" is not confirmed by a single authoritative source, so visitors should treat the two names as referring to the same Amedzofe falls area rather than as two separate, verified sites.

Reaching the falls involves a hike. The trail descends from the village through farms, with a stop en route at a summer house that has views over the valley and neighbouring villages. The final section is very steep and fitted with rope hand rails. The walk is given as about two hours at difficulty 3. A canopy walkway is also associated with the Amedzofe falls experience.

Water levels are seasonal. Peak flow runs from May to November, while from January to March the volume may be greatly reduced or the falls may not be flowing at all. Planning a visit within the wetter months is therefore more likely to match expectations of a cascade.

Practical facilities are concentrated in the village rather than at the falls. A visitor centre sits in the centre of Amedzofe, across from the main square and market, with a small gift shop, a shaded porch serving cold drinks, flush toilets and refreshments, and guides who help plan tours. Stated hours for the visitor centre and village attraction are 6:00 am to 5:30 pm daily. Accommodation is limited to one or two local guesthouses, with home stay and camping arrangeable through the visitor centre, and food available from the guesthouse or local chop bars.

Amedzofe is about 35 km from Ho. By road, drive north to Matse and on to the Dzolokpuita junction, then turn right and climb through Vane to Amedzofe. Trotros and buses run infrequently from the Ho lorry station to Amedzofe; alternatively, take a trotro from Ho towards Hohoe, ask to be dropped at Dzolokpuita, and hike the remaining 8 km. Ote waterfall lies towards the eastern section of Amedzofe, roughly 2 km from the town centre. No information was found on wheelchair access, paved paths or step-free access, and coordinates are unknown.
