Liati Wote Community Cultural Experiences

Liati Wote is a rural Ewe village of about 600 people in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region, set on the foothill of Mount Afadjato and within walking distance of Tagbo Falls. Most residents are small-scale farmers, and the village is organised under traditional leadership headed by a chief and elders. Its cultural tourism programme is run through the community ecotourism project and local lodges, and the operator Jolinaiko Eco Tours describes it as a community-based tourism project whose income directly benefits the community.

For visitors, the appeal is everyday village life rather than a staged attraction. Documented guided village walks take in daily activities such as drying cocoa, extracting palm oil, cooking and milling maize, and market stalls. Farm walks with local farmers cross land growing oil palm, cocoa, coffee, rice, maize and vegetables, with palm trees and a bamboo forest along the Tagbo River.

A Borborbor drumming and dancing performance can be arranged on request. It is described as the most popular recreational music and dance of the Ewe people of the mid-Volta region, linking traditional drumming rhythms to proverbial lyrics. Other documented options include cooking local meals such as akple, banku and fufu with lodge staff, visiting a palm wine and palm oil distillery producing local gin (akpeteshi), biking with sturdy bikes available at the lodge, an arts workshop with a local artist, children's activities, and hikes to Tagbo Falls and Mount Afadjato.

Note on location: the operator states that Liati Wote, Mount Afadjato and Tagbo Falls are currently shown in the wrong place on Google Maps, roughly 30 to 45 minutes further north-west than their actual position, and that the mountain and falls lie more to the east of the village. The lodge is described as being on the left side of the road just before the entrance of Liati Wote village coming from Liati Soba.
