About Tagbo Falls Lodge

Tagbo Falls Lodge is a small eco-lodge on the edge of Liati Wote village, in the Afadjato valley of the Afadjato South District, Volta Region. It is owned by Jolinaiko Eco-Tours, a Ghana Tourism Authority-licensed tour operator, and describes itself as a base for hikers and nature visitors. The lodge sits on the left side of the road just before the entrance to Liati Wote, coming from Liati Soba, and is within walking distance of the Tagbo Waterfalls, reached on a hike the operator puts at 45 minutes to an hour. Trails toward Mount Afadjato, Ghana's highest peak, also start from the area.

There are eight rooms. Five are in the main house and three are chalet-style rooms in the garden. All have air conditioning, a fan and warm water, and some have private bathrooms while others are shared. Mosquito nets are provided. Shared spaces include a communal kitchenette for tea and coffee, sitting and lounging areas, a summer terrace with hammocks, and a restaurant and bar serving local and continental dishes; the kitchen takes last orders at 8pm, and breakfast is not included in room rates. Power comes from the grid with solar-panel standby, WiFi is available in a dedicated area rather than in the rooms, and mobile reception in the area is poor.

The lodge arranges guided hikes, village and farm walks, cooking, an arts workshop, children's activities and a nanny service, and bicycles are available. Manager and cook Philomina is the on-site contact. The lodge was built by Jolinaiko after years of visiting the community, and its development supported local employment and eco-tourism projects run with the Stepping Stones for Africa foundation, including plastic-waste recycling and wall paintings in Liati Wote.

Access takes planning. By road from Accra the route runs via Asikuma Junction and Logba Wuinta or Leklebi Dafor to Liati Agbonyra, then an untarred road via Liati Soba to Liati Wote; the drive from Accra is about five to six hours, and Hohoe is roughly 40 minutes away. By public transport, take a Hohoe-bound bus from Tudu or Madina Station and alight at the Golokwati police barrier, then a charter taxi or motorbike, or a Wote-bound taxi or minibus from Hohoe main station. Jolinaiko can arrange transfers with its own cars and drivers. Payment is by cash in local currency or MTN mobile money, and there is no ATM within about 45 minutes' drive. No information was found on wheelchair access or step-free facilities.
