About Anyanui to Ada Foah Boat Trip

The Anyanui–Ada Foah boat trip is a river crossing between Anyanui, in the Anloga District of the Volta Region, and Ada Foah, on the opposite side of the lower Volta River. It runs through the Volta River estuary, where the river meets the sea, and is listed among the east-coast highlights in the Volta Tourist Highlights guide. The route is roughly 7 km and takes about 45 minutes each way by outboard motor. Mangroves line the left bank; the right bank is described as golden sandy riverbank.

For visitors, the appeal is the estuary setting itself and the chance to move between the Volta Region and the Ada coast by water rather than road. The crossing is also described as the way to reach the opposite bank of the Volta River, which makes it a practical link as well as a scenic one.

There is no dedicated boat-trip operator with published contact details. The Volta Tourist Highlights guide says the trip can be arranged through Maranatha Beach Camp in Ada Foah (024 352 82 48) or Meet me There in Dzita (054 367 01 94). Maranatha Beach Camp, in the Kewunor fishing community on the Volta estuary, offers rustic huts, dorm rooms, a restaurant and bar, swimming in the river with lifeguards, boat trips, excursions to local markets and community tours. The Ada Tourism Stakeholders Association notes the area suits boat trips and watersports, and that reaching Maranatha requires renting a boat.

The documented scheduled crossing is the Ada Foah–Anyanui ferry. It is described as leaving Ada Foah around 8 am and 3 pm, returning from Anyanui around 1 pm and 6 pm, taking about 1.5 hours one way. These times are approximate and the ferry is said to leave when full. No published fare was found for this crossing.

Historically, from the late 1980s into the 1990s, a pontoon carried market women and traders between Anyanui and Ada. Lack of maintenance grounded the ferries, pushing traders onto a road journey of roughly 75 km. That history explains why the water link matters locally, though current service details should be confirmed before travelling.
