The Oti Region holds one of Ghana's most rewarding wild corners: Kyabobo National Park, a mountainous landscape on the Togo border near Nkwanta, where forest and savanna meet. Everything listed here sits within or beside that single park, so a visit is less about ticking off separate stops and more about one long, satisfying day or two on foot. The park is known for its waterfalls, hiking and mountain-biking trails, and community tourism, and the four places below are the practical heart of it.

They differ mainly in what you do when you arrive. Kyabobo National Park Headquarters and Entrance, about 5 km off the Ho–Temale Road at Nkwanta, is where guided hikes and bike rental are arranged, so it is the natural first stop. From there, trails lead to Laboum Waterfall, a multi-tiered cascade on the Laboum River reached only by hiking, and to Kyabobo Lower Waterfalls, the lower cascade generally identified with the lower tier of Laboum waterfall. The wider park itself offers forest-savanna habitats, wildlife and mountain views.

Good to know

Before you go

Start at the headquarters and entrance near Nkwanta, where guided hikes and bike rental are arranged, and sort out your guide before setting off, since the waterfalls are reached only on foot. Wear sturdy shoes, carry plenty of water and allow generous time for walking in hilly country. Ask locally about trail conditions and water levels, as these change with the seasons, and check current opening arrangements and any park fees before you travel. Nkwanta sits on the Ho–Temale Road, which is the usual approach. Community tourism is part of the experience here, so hiring local guides and buying locally keeps the benefit close to the park.
