Boat trips in the Oti Region begin at Dambai, where the Oti River widens into the northern arm of Lake Volta. This is working water, not a theme park: ferries, canoes and small craft cross all day, carrying people, goods and vehicles between the town and the far bank. For a traveller, that everyday rhythm is the attraction. You step aboard, the engine settles, and the water opens out around you.
All four places here share the same stretch of river at Dambai. The Dambai Ferry Site is the landing itself, on the eastern bank, used by VLTL vessels on the Dambai–Overbank route. The Dambai Volta ferry crossing is the crossing those vessels make, linking Dambai with the opposite bank. Lake Volta Boat Ride Experience describes the lakefront and ferry point, where the working crossing doubles as a scenic ride. And the Oti River, also called the Pendjari, is the waterway itself, a major international river running through the region.
They differ mainly in what you do with them. Two are about the crossing and its landing; one is about the wider river and its nature; one frames the whole thing as a boat ride. Together they make a simple half-day out on the water.
Good to know
Plan around the ferry rather than a fixed timetable, as crossings serve the community and timings can shift. Ask locally in Dambai about current sailings and where to board, and check conditions before setting out, since river levels and weather affect small craft. Getting between these places is easy: they are all at Dambai, so you can walk or take a short local ride between the landing, the lakefront and the ferry point. Bring water, sun protection and a little cash, and keep bags close on board. If you want a canoe rather than the ferry, arrange it in town beforehand.
