About Kyabobo Lower Waterfalls
Kyabobo Lower Waterfalls is a cascade inside Kyabobo National Park, in the Nkwanta South Municipal District of Ghana's Oti Region, near the border with Togo. The park's named waterfall is Laboum, described by the official park page as having an upper and a lower fall, so this lower cascade is generally understood to be the lower tier of Laboum. Sources do not use the exact name "Kyabobo Lower Waterfalls," so the link between the two names remains an inference rather than a confirmed fact.
The setting is a mountainous conservation area in the dry semi-deciduous transition zone between rainforest and tree savanna, holding both forest and savanna species. The park contains Mount Dzebobo, Ghana's second-highest peak, and is noted for its butterfly and bird life. The waterfall and the Koue River are described as most dramatic after the rains, from August to December.
Reaching the falls means hiking. The official park listing gives the Laboum waterfall walk as five hours at difficulty level 3, while a visitor account describes roughly a 5.5 km walk of about two hours from Laboum camp to the lower waterfall. A game-viewing hide near the waterfall is mentioned for birds and small mammals. No waterfall-specific facilities, fees, or hours were found.
The park is open 6 am to 6 pm daily, and guided visits are arranged at park headquarters outside Nkwanta. From the Ho–Temale road at Nkwanta, turn at the park sign and drive 5 km to headquarters; local taxis may cover that stretch. The park lies about 400 km from Accra. Campsites with showers and toilets, and meals in Nkwanta, are park-level amenities rather than waterfall-specific ones.
