About Kyabobo National Park Headquarters and Entrance
Kyabobo National Park Headquarters and Entrance is the practical arrival point and administrative base for Kyabobo National Park, set just outside Nkwanta in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, near Ghana's border with Togo. Visit Ghana describes it as a "beautiful-landscaped park headquarters outside Nkwanta," and the Forestry Commission places the park in the Atwode traditional area of the former Nkwanta district. This is where visits are planned and access arrangements made.
Getting here is straightforward in outline. From the main Ho–Temale Road at Nkwanta, visitors turn at the Kyabobo National Park sign and follow the road about 5 km to the headquarters. Trotros run from Accra, Hohoe and Tamale (changing at Bimbila), and local taxis may be available for the final 5 km from the main road to the visitor centre. Published park hours are 6 am to 6 pm daily; no separate office hours for the headquarters were found.
The headquarters is the base for guided hikes and for mountain-bike rental — Visit Ghana notes visitors can rent a mountain bike here to cycle around Breast Mountain. PAPACO lists permanent staff including a park manager, a tourism officer, 20 rangers and 6 tour guides. A camp site adjacent to the headquarters has showers and flush toilets, and Laboum Camp has showers and pit toilets. Meals are available at chop bars and restaurants in Nkwanta or can be arranged by the community cook at the picnic site, with beverages in most villages and hotels in Nkwanta. One visitor reported renting a bungalow at the park with fridge, stove, satellite TV and air conditioning for GHS 50 in 2019; that price is dated and should be treated as historical.
The park itself, established by Executive Instrument No. 20 of 16/09/1993, protects a transition zone between tropical rainforest and tree savanna. It contains Mount Dzebobo, Ghana's second-highest peak, and the Breast Mountains, and supports buffalo, kob, warthog, bushbuck, duikers, baboon and the rock hyrax that appears on the park logo. A GNA report of December 2025 quotes park manager Alfred Kofi Bara confirming the park remained safe and open to visitors after local conflict, with authorities able to arrange accommodation and transport. Visit Ghana lists contact 0506884376; no email or separate headquarters office line was independently confirmed.
