Why visit
About Dzita Beach
Dzita Beach is the sandy coastal stretch at Dzita, a traditional Ewe fishing village on the Gulf of Guinea in the Anloga District of Ghana's Volta Region. It lies east of the Volta River mouth, in the traditional Anloga (Anlo) area, with the neighbouring settlement of Dzita-Abledomi close by. The village sits between the sea and a saltwater lagoon.
The shoreline forms part of the Anlo-Keta coastal stretch. The Anloga District Assembly's composite budget lists "the beautiful sandy beaches" among the district's coastal tourist sites, describing a sand beach stretch of over 39km running from Tegbi to Fuveme. The surrounding area is known for its beaches, mangrove and wetland surroundings, and fishing culture.
For a visitor, the appeal is largely the setting and the working coast rather than a developed resort strip. Activity in the area centres on the coast and the estuary where the Volta meets the sea, with boat trips along the Ada coast and estuary, watching fishermen land their nets, and local markets. Eco-lodges and beach resorts operate along this stretch, including Meet Me There Eco Lodge, a not-for-profit lodge between Dzita and Dzita-Abledomi that supports the Dream Big Ghana NGO, and The Chill River Resort. Dzita also hosts community events such as an Easter homecoming festival.
Access is by road from Keta or Anloga. One published account describes reaching the area by tro-tro from Accra to Keta and then a short taxi ride.
Practical visitor facilities, fees and opening arrangements are not documented by the sources reviewed, so travellers should treat those details as unconfirmed. The coordinates recorded for Dzita are for the village itself, not a confirmed beach entrance.
