About Lake Volta Boat Ride Experience
The Dambai lakefront and ferry point sit on the Oti River arm of Lake Volta, where a working river crossing also serves as a scenic visitor experience. Boat and canoe trips, along with visits to nearby fishing villages, are associated with the lakefronts at Dambai and Kete-Krachi. The Oti Region heritage inventory published by the National Commission on Culture lists the Dambai ferry as a tourist attraction.
Dambai is the capital of the Oti Region, on the eastern bank of the Oti River, a tributary and extension of Lake Volta; it was designated regional capital in February 2019. Kete-Krachi, in Krachi West, is a second lakefront access point.
Facilities at the Dambai lakefront are simple and transport-focused rather than visitor-oriented. There are open-air deck sections used for photography and sightseeing, vehicle and foot passenger loading ramps, and a working market and fishing landing nearby. The Volta Lake Transport Company ferry carries life jackets and life rafts for passengers. No dedicated visitor centre, ticketing office for leisure cruises, catering or guided-tour facilities could be verified.

The lake transport service is operated by Volta Lake Transport Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Volta River Authority, with its head office at Akosombo. Published office hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00, while ferry operations run daily from 05:30 to 18:00.
Access is by road on the Eastern Corridor Road, roughly six to seven hours from Accra or south from Tamale, to Dambai and then the lakefront. From the Krachi bus station, a tro-tro to Dambai takes about 45–60 minutes for around GHS 5, followed by a 15-minute walk or a short motorbike taxi for about GHS 2. The ferry terminal's plus code is 35GG+27, Dambai.
No published fee exists for a packaged leisure boat ride. The only verifiable charge is the ferry crossing fare on the Dambai route, which rose from GH¢4 to GH¢7 per passenger in April 2026 and was contested by passengers; a secondary travel site gives different estimates. Current rates should be confirmed at the terminal.
The Ghana Tourism Authority's Oti Region office in Dambai handles tourism registration, licensing and promotion enquiries; it is an administrative office, not an attraction.
