About Shiare Hanging Village
Shiare, widely known as the "Hanging Village", is a mountain settlement in the Breast Mountains of Nkwanta South Municipal District, Oti Region. It is the ancestral home and capital of the Akyode (Kyode) people, who speak the Akyode language, and the chief carries the title Shiare Wura or Osulewura. Oral history holds that the community is roughly 900 years old and that its people migrated from Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. Ghana Tourism Authority's Visit Ghana portal lists "Hanging Village, Shiare" among the notable attractions of the Oti Region, alongside Breast Mountain and Kyabobo National Park.

The village's defining feature is its architecture. Houses of rock and clay are built on terraces formed along the contour of the mountain, which gives the settlement the appearance of hanging on the hillside. Residents are mainly subsistence farmers growing cassava, yams and vegetables, and they also produce honey. Traditional religion is practised alongside Christianity.
Shiare is promoted as a community-based cultural and heritage destination, with guided village tours, stone terrace architecture, hillside paths and viewpoints. A waterfall known in Akyode as Tsatsale, meaning "waterfalls", serves as the community's water source and lies roughly a 40-minute walk from the village. Ghana News Agency reporting refers to a local tour guide for the Hanging Village.
