About Kpando Municipal Assembly

Kpando Municipal Assembly (KPMA) is the local government authority for Kpando Municipal District in the Volta Region of Ghana, with Kpando as its municipal capital. It was elevated to municipal status through L.I. 2073 in 2012 and is composed of 19 Elected Members, 9 Government Appointees, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the Kpando Constituency. By law it is the highest political, administrative and planning authority in the Municipality, holding deliberative, legislative and executive powers and responsibility for overall development. Three Zonal Councils sit below it: Kpando, Gbefi and Sovie.

For a visitor, the Assembly is less an attraction than a practical and informational reference point. It publishes municipal information, including tourism and hospitality content, and its own site identifies tourism potential in the area's natural, historical and cultural heritage — the Volta Lake and its islands, Kpando as an archaeological site, and relics of the German colonial administration at Kpando Todzi, where the forts currently serve as the Kpando Prison. Festivals noted by the Assembly include SASADUZA, Danyigbakaka and Duawokpeza. The Assembly's stated vision is to be one of the leading performing districts in good governance in Ghana.

The Municipality covers approximately 314.07 sq km, about 1.5% of the Volta Region, with almost 12% of the land submerged by the Volta Lake, which forms the western boundary over roughly a 20 km shoreline. It borders Biakoye District to the north, Afadzato South to the east and North Dayi District to the south. Kpando, the municipal capital, lies about 70 km from Ho, the regional capital.

The Assembly's office is at Fesi, adjacent Victory Chapel International, with the postal address Kpando Municipal Assembly, P. O. Box 45, Kpando, Volta Region. Contact details published by the Assembly are +233 362 350 222 and [email protected], with the website at kpma.gov.gh; a GPS address of VP-0196-3957 is also listed. Visitors should treat these as administrative contact points rather than visitor services, and confirm current details directly before travelling.
