About Butre Beach Lodge & Restaurant Cluster

Butre Beach Lodge & Restaurant Cluster is a group of beachfront lodges, restaurants and bars on Butre Beach at Butre village, in Ahanta West Municipal, Western Region, Ghana. The cluster includes The Hideout Lodge, Fanta's Folly Beach Lodge, Afro Beach eco Resort and Green Zion Garden. Each is a separate business, so there is no single cluster-wide contact or booking point.

The setting is a beach at a fishing village, with the lodges sitting between neighbouring fishing villages and jungle behind them, as The Hideout Lodge describes its own position. Fanta's Folly lies about 1.5 km from Butre village. The area is roughly 40 km from Takoradi and about 10 km from Agona. A wooden bridge connects the village and the lodges, and a small locally owned bar stands next to Hideout Lodge.

Beachmeter describes Butre's beach as relatively narrow, with waves and currents that can be tricky and water that gets deep quickly, kept clean by the resorts. It lists bodyboarding, swimming, sun-bathing, turtle conservation and village life among the activities, and notes that sea turtles lay eggs on the beach in season, usually September to March, with both lodges running turtle conservation programmes.

Accommodation and dining vary by property. Hideout Lodge offers beachfront wooden deck dining, dorm rooms with shared facilities and self-contained bungalows for couples and families, plus beach bonfires with drumming, dugout canoe rides on the Butre River through mangroves, visits to Fort Batenstein above the village, and a shoreline walk to Busua. Fanta's Folly has 12 en suite chalets, most with sea views, African art decor, and a restaurant serving French and Ghanaian food. Afro Beach eco Resort has rooms in gardens near a private beach, with a restaurant, bar and free parking. Green Zion Garden is listed as a bed and breakfast with garden views, beachfront accommodation, a terrace and a bar.

Practical points from Beachmeter: bring cash, as the nearest ATM is in Agona and takes visa cards only; respect villagers; and expect roads that can be challenging after heavy rain. Hideout Lodge can be reached by email at [email protected].
