About Boti Falls

Boti Falls is a twin waterfall at Boti, in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of Ghana's Eastern Region, roughly 17 km northeast of Koforidua. It sits in the forest of Huhunya and is fed by a river known locally as Ponmpon. The falls are seasonal: in high flow the water drops as two side-by-side falls, and in full flow visitors stand within what is described as a canyon of falling water. The larger fall is mythically regarded as male and the smaller as female, and locals say a rainbow forms when the two merge.

The site is usually presented as a three-in-one visit: the falls themselves, the Umbrella Rock, and the Three-Headed Palm Tree. A 45-minute guided rainforest hike reaches Umbrella Rock, the palm tree and other rock formations. Canoe rides are also available to approach the falls for a nominal fee. Reported facilities include restrooms, picnic areas with shade, summer huts and seating, a small onsite cafe selling drinks, and a mini-hotel and restaurant noted as available especially during peak holiday periods.

Access is by descending 250 concrete steps, which must be climbed again on the return, so the site is not step-free. The optional hike to Umbrella Rock involves steep, rocky up-and-down paths and some scrambling, and is described as not for the fainthearted; sturdy walking shoes are recommended. A motorcyclist can be arranged to return hikers to the falls entrance, about 12 minutes at GH¢20 per adult.

From Koforidua the route follows a surfaced road to Kurakan and Huhunya, then a signposted 7 km dirt road; signage is sparse. The falls are managed by Kingdom Ventures, and the site is seasonal, described as best from June to August. The base pool is generally reported as safe for swimming.
