About Akaa Falls
Akaa Falls (also written Akaa Waterfalls) is a seasonal waterfall in the Akuapim North Municipal District of Ghana's Eastern Region, near Akyeremanteng village. It sits about 21 km northeast of Koforidua, the regional capital, and barely 7 km from the better-known Boti Falls. The two share a water source: Akaa Falls is fed by the Boti River, the same stream that forms Boti Falls. The municipal assembly has listed the waterfalls at Akyeremateng among the area's tourist attractions, noting in its composite budget that they are yet to be fully developed.
The setting is dense semi-deciduous forest and rocky cliffs. Because the falls are seasonal, flow is strongest after the rainy season, roughly June to November; during strong flow, water is described as falling from three sides of the rock face. Visitors report hiking, swimming in natural pools, and watching birds and butterflies. The site lies within an area used by the Ghana Police for training, and visitors report needing to enter with a guide.
Reaching the base involves descending approximately 250 concrete steps through forest. Trails are reported as slippery, particularly after rainfall, and sturdy non-slip footwear is advised. By road, the falls are roughly two hours from Accra and about one hour from Koforidua, though visitor reports describe poor road conditions on the approach.
Published pay-at-the-gate rates from OKDA Tourism (Okere Tourism Hub) list GH₵20 for Ghanaian adults, GH₵10 for Ghanaian children, GH₵30 for international adults and GH₵15 for international children, with a guide included; the page states prices are in Ghana Cedis and subject to change, and defines children as under 12 or holding a valid student ID. One directory lists entrance at around 5 cedis, which conflicts with these rates.
Height figures conflict: Wikipedia describes a 60 m cascade, while ghanatrvl states around 15 metres. Step-free or wheelchair access is unknown, and no source describes it.
