About Adom Waterfalls

Adom Waterfalls, also known as Obosomase Waterfalls, is a waterfall in Obosomase in the Akuapim North Municipal District of Ghana's Eastern Region. Visit Ghana describes it as a waterfall running over stratified rocks into a clear pool, flowing through forest, and located close to the source of the Tsenku waterfalls. Ghana Remembers describes two cascading falls flowing over layered rocks into clear pools, surrounded by green forest, with visitors hiking, photographing, swimming and relaxing. The rainy season, roughly May to October, is reported as the best time to visit, when the falls are at their most impressive.

The site carries a local origin story. A caretaker, Mr. George Akufo, told the Ghana News Agency that about 50 years ago a hunter lost in the forest came upon the waterfalls; he informed the chiefs on his return, and they inspected the site and named it Adom, meaning "Grace." Customary rites were performed to open the site to visitors, and care of it has passed through several custodians; Mr. Akufo and his siblings look after it on behalf of their uncle, the chief of the area. The falls are said to share a source with the Chenku (Tsenku) waterfalls at Dodowa and to belong to the same stool.

Reaching the lower pool involves a forest trail with uneven, muddy ground and a descent of roughly 90 stone steps; the climb back up is taxing. FindTourGuide rates the trail as moderate difficulty and advises high-grip footwear, and one 2024 visitor review describes the hike as about 30 minutes and not recommended for older people. The final stretch of road to the site is unpaved dirt and gravel, rutted after rain; Ghana Business News reported in 2023 that the road was in poor condition with sharp stones, so visitors parked away and trekked down. No formal provision for wheelchairs or reduced mobility is documented.

Facilities are limited. Ghana Business News reported in 2023 that the site had no washrooms and little else besides the waterfall, and that a private developer was building a guest house nearby. A 2024 visitor review mentions an abandoned seating area under new management and dustbins at vantage points, alongside widespread litter. Local guides are stationed at the entrance and accompany visitors on the hike. Visit Ghana lists opening hours of 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and a contact number, +233 277 553 452. Coordinates of 5.875111, -0.157056 are feature coordinates rather than a confirmed visitor entrance.
