About Tsenku (Chenku) Waterfall
Tsenku (Chenku) Waterfall, also called Wuruduwurudu Falls, is a seasonal waterfall in the Dodowa Forest in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region, roughly 39 km from Accra. Visit Ghana describes it as the only waterfall in the region, dropping about 250 feet over stratified rocks into a cool, clear pool. The Tsenku stream is joined by the Sanyade and Popotsi streams before flowing to the sea. Sources describe a rock wall with a small cave beneath it, showing syncline and anticline folds, and exposed boulders in the valley.
The setting carries historical weight. The surrounding forest is named after the Tsenku (Kyenku) god, whose shrine is at Obosomase, and the Dodowa Forest was the battlefield of the 1826 Katamanso War. A giant baobab at the edge of Dodowa is said to bear bullet marks from that conflict. The site is also described as sacred to local people, with restrictions on entering the pool.
Reaching the falls means walking through forest. GBC reports a trek of roughly 45 minutes from Dodowa Junction, with the route also described as running from Obosomase; okada riders reportedly offer paid rides in the forest. A blog describes two levels: a short walk to the first level and a further 45-minute hike to the upper cascade. Expect a rocky, root-tangled descent to the pool and slippery rocks, with the upper cascade requiring the additional hike.
Facilities are limited. GBC reported a makeshift hut serving as a rest stop and no visible addition to the natural fall. A 2024 blog noted no shop for water or refreshments, insufficient benches, only one directional sign at the market-road junction, and guides it described as untrained. The road network to the site is reported as poor, and a wooden bridge over a stream in the forest is reported to be in bad shape.
Because the waterfall is seasonal, flow conditions vary, and the sources reviewed do not give opening hours or a current, verified fee. The only coordinate available is a third-party listing pin, not an official entrance. Visitors should treat access details, facilities and charges as subject to change and confirm locally before travelling.
