About Dixcove Beach

Dixcove Beach is the working shoreline of Dixcove, a coastal village and fishing community in the Ahanta West District of Ghana's Western Region, roughly 35 km west of Sekondi-Takoradi. It is not a resort beach but the everyday frontage of a fishing town, where canoes and daily fishing activity shape the scene.

The beach sits below Fort Metal Cross, an English-built fort on a bluff on the eastern side of the village. Construction began in 1692 and the fort was completed in 1698. It dominates the fishing village and town, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board records that the fort was used in the gold, palm oil and slave trades, later serving as a prison, police station and post office. It is now leased privately and operated as a tourist site, with opening hours of 9:00am to 4:30pm.

The fort's position above the cove gives views over the fishing harbour and coastline, and the fort itself is the main historic landmark here. The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board notes that the cove's quiet waters suit small boats and canoes, while large ships anchor about 2 km offshore. Go Ahanta describes the beach as a beautiful one near Fort Metal Cross, suited to relaxation and coastal walks.

A third-party beach guide describes Dixcove as a working fishing beach with moderate surf that varies daily, no lifeguards, and currents that can be strong, advising caution for swimming. That guidance concerns swimming conditions only; no managed beach facilities are documented.

The village has budget guesthouses and local chop bars, and nearby Busua offers additional accommodation and dining. Access is by road from Takoradi or Busua via the coastal road. Fort opening hours and the cove description refer to Fort Metal Cross and its cove, not to a managed beach facility.
