About Denu Beach

Denu Beach is a sandy stretch of the Atlantic coast at Denu, the capital of the Ketu South Municipal District in the far south-eastern corner of Ghana's Volta Region. The town sits between the sea to the south and a lagoon to the north, and the beach reads less as a developed resort and more as an extension of the settlement itself — a place where residents gather, children play, and fishing canoes come back to shore.

Its setting is the main reason to consider it. Denu lies on the coastal highway roughly 20 km east of Keta and about 10 km west of Aflao, the border town facing Togo, which makes the beach a natural stop for anyone travelling that stretch of coast. Accra is around 180–190 km away, a journey of about four hours by road.

What a visitor can reasonably expect is a broad, largely open shoreline with minimal commercial development. There is no formal lifeguard service typically present, and ocean conditions can vary, including strong currents, so swimming decisions rest with the individual. Because the beach itself offers few facilities, bringing your own supplies is sensible.

Practical access is straightforward by public transport: tro-tros and buses running between Keta and Aflao stop in Denu, and from the town you can reach the beach by taxi or motorcycle taxi. Denu town has modest guesthouses, chop bars and street food, so food and lodging are available in the settlement rather than on the sand.

For weather, the dry season from November to March is described as offering the most reliable sunny conditions. Note that the mapped coordinates for the beach come from community and directory sources rather than an official operator, and they should not be treated as a confirmed visitor entrance.
