About Ketu South Municipal Assembly
Ketu South Municipal Assembly is the decentralized local government authority for Ketu South Municipality, in the south-eastern corner of Ghana's Volta Region. Its administrative capital is Denu. The Assembly is not a conventional attraction; it is the body that publishes the municipality's investment and tourism opportunities, which makes it a reasonable first point of contact for visitors and businesses seeking official information about the district.
The municipality's setting is distinctive. It borders the Republic of Togo to the east, Keta Municipality to the west, Ketu North Municipality to the north and the Gulf of Guinea to the south, and it shares a direct boundary with Lomé, Togo's capital. That position makes the area a major international gateway with an active border crossing. The Assembly describes a coastal savannah climate, with temperatures of roughly 24–30°C and average annual rainfall of 850–1000 mm, falling mainly in wet seasons from April to July and September to October.
The local economy combines cross-border trade and commerce, agriculture including maize, cassava and vegetables, fishing and aquaculture, and small-scale industries and markets. The Assembly notes lagoons and wetlands suited to eco-tourism, aquaculture and salt mining. Its published investment material covers hospitality infrastructure such as hotels, restaurants, recreational and medical centres and roads, alongside the packaging and marketing of tourist potentials including beaches, the Aflao–Lomé border, cultural festivals and heritage.
Administratively, the Assembly operates under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), with elected assembly members, government appointees and administrative officials. It serves over 400 communities organized into five zonal councils: Aflao Urban, Some-Wego, Some-Fugo, Aflao-Wego and Klikor. The 2021 Population and Housing Census recorded approximately 253,122 residents.
For practical contact, the Assembly lists its office at No. 6, Tokor-Ho Road, Viepe-Tokor, Volta Region, with digital address VZ-0064-4274, telephone numbers +233 55 766 0021 and +233 50 508 2128, and email [email protected]. Its official website is ketusouth.gov.gh. Visitors should note that opening hours, walk-in procedures and any visitor-facing services are not confirmed by the available evidence, so contacting the office in advance is advisable.
