About Yiadom-Hwedie Palace
Yiadom-Hwedie Palace — also written Yiadom Hwedie or Yiadom ne Hwedie Palace — is the seat of the New Juaben Traditional Council and of the Yiadom-Hwedie Stool, whose occupant is the Omanhene, paramount chief and Overlord of the New Juaben Traditional Area. It stands in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, within the New Juaben South Municipal District.
The palace is a working traditional seat rather than a conventional ticketed museum. There is no verified admission fee, opening schedule or guided visitor programme, so it is best understood as the ceremonial and administrative heart of the traditional area, where the council and the chiefs of the divisions and subdivisions meet.
Its public life is visible on occasion. GhanaWeb reported an Akwasidae durbar held at the forecourt of the Yiadom ne Hwedie Palace in Koforidua in December 2025, and Graphic Online described the palace as the focus of the traditional area during the death of Omanhene Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti Boateng in August 2021, when divisional and sub-chiefs met there and mourners gathered in its vicinity. Class FM reported in April 2021 that the palace, built under Omanhene Daasebre Kwaku Boateng I, who reigned from 1913 to 1930, is now a tourist attraction; the New Juaben Traditional Council also resolved to erect a statue of that Omanhene at a roundabout opposite the Omanhene's palace.
For a visitor, the palace is a way of locating Koforidua's traditional authority in the city itself. A Peek.com walking-tour listing names "Koforidua Yiadom-Hwedie Palace" as the starting point of a three-hour guided Koforidua walking tour, which suggests the site can be approached as part of a wider walk through the city.
Practical details remain thin. No precise street address or verified coordinates were found, and the "Spring Valley area" detail appears only in social posts and is unverified. Because the palace is an active seat of traditional authority, visitors should expect ceremonial activity and restricted areas rather than a museum layout, and should treat access as something to confirm locally rather than assume.
