Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, is a market town with a strong cultural heartbeat. The places gathered here share a common thread: they are living parts of the town's daily life, where craft, trade, tradition and community meet. You can spend a morning among beads and a afternoon in a park, without ever leaving the centre.
They differ in character. The Centre for National Culture, Eastern Region is the formal cultural anchor, with a craftshop, a traditional training school and a reported 1,500-seat theatre. The Koforidua Beads Market, held weekly on Thursdays in the Gallaway neighbourhood beside Jubilee Park, is the town at its most colourful, described by the local assembly as one of Africa's largest bead markets. Koforidua Central Market, the leading trading centre of the New Juaben South Municipality, keeps Monday and Thursday market days. Jackson Park is the historic public park and community centre, redeveloped from 2021 with sports, event and civic facilities. And Yiadom-Hwedie Palace is the working seat of the New Juaben Traditional Council and the Yiadom-Hwedie Stool, not a ticketed museum, so visit it with the respect a royal household deserves.
