About Tafi Monkey Village
Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, also promoted as Tafi Monkey Village, is a community-run sacred grove and wildlife attraction in the village of Tafi Atome, in the Afadzato South District of Ghana's Volta Region. It protects a remnant patch of semi-deciduous forest in the forest-savannah transition zone, where sacred Mona monkeys — and patas monkeys — live alongside the community. Local tradition holds the monkeys as sacred. The Forestry Commission lists the site as Tafi Monkey Sanctuary, and it is also known as Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Cultural Village.
The sanctuary was established in 1993 as a community-based ecotourism and conservation project. It is described as a traditional conservation area backed by statutory enforcement in cooperation with local communities, and it is categorised as a wildlife reserve, forest reserve, cultural site and community tourism site.

Visitors take guided forest walks to see and feed the monkeys. Cultural village experiences, including traditional performances and kente weaving at nearby Tafi Abuipe, can be added to a visit. The monkeys are generally out at any time of day except from November through January, when they leave the village forest; the site is listed as open from 6 am to 6 pm daily.

Facilities at the visitor centre include a tourist reception facility, a modern seven-seater washroom, three visitor pavilions, and wire mesh and bamboo perimeter fencing. A small craft shop sits at the visitor centre, and a community cook serves meals at a circular open-air shelter. A rustic six-room guesthouse adjoins the visitor centre, with flush toilets, showers and sheets provided but no towels; homestays are also available, and liquid refreshments can be found in the village.
The sanctuary lies about 43 km south of Hohoe and roughly 230 km from Accra, with Kpando as the nearest city. From the main Ho–Hohoe road at Logba Alekpeti, turn at the Monkey Sanctuary sign onto the dirt road.
