About Sirigu Chief's Palace

The Sirigu Chief's Palace, known as the Azukodaana Palace, is the seat of the Paramount Chief of the Sirigu Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District of Ghana's Upper East Region. The Paramount Chief, who is also President of the Sirigu Traditional Council, holds the title Azukodaana. The current Azukodaana is Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, enskinned on 20 July 2015. The people of Sirigu are collectively known as Seriba.

For visitors, the palace is chiefly significant as a living cultural and ceremonial site rather than a monument. It is the venue for the launch of the annual Azuko Festival, which the chief has described as "our ancestral drum" and a celebration of the identity and shared heritage of the Sirigu people. The maiden edition accompanied his 10th anniversary celebrations, and the second edition was launched at the palace, with the festival itself scheduled for 30 December 2026.

The palace is also named as a possible stop on guided village tours arranged through the Sirigu Community Based Ecotourism Project and the SWOPA crafts centre. Those tours are described as taking in the primary school, the medical centre, the orphanage and the traditional painted houses, so the palace is best understood as one element of a wider village visit rather than a standalone attraction.

Sirigu is a farming community about 35 km from Bolgatanga, the Upper East regional capital; the district capital is Paga. The village is known for traditional pottery, basketry, wall painting and artwork, and hosts one of the biggest markets in the district.

Practical details are limited. No verified street address, coordinates, opening hours, entry fees or booking arrangements for the palace were found, and access appears to depend on arranging a guided tour through the community tourism project or crafts centre. Visitors should confirm current arrangements locally before travelling.
