About Odweanoma Mountain Paragliding Site

Odweanoma Mountain Paragliding Site is Ghana's main paragliding take-off point, set on the Odweanoma Mountain at Atibie-Kwahu in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region, overlooking the town of Nkawkaw. The site sits above Nkawkaw, and the launch pad itself is on the Odweanoma Mountains.

The paragliding festival here was introduced in 2005 by the Ministry of Tourism and is held annually during the Easter period in Kwahu. Visit Ghana describes it as the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa and the third in Africa, after Kenya and South Africa. It is the flagship programme of the Ghana Tourism Authority and draws thousands of tourists from across the world; growth in visitor numbers led to the need to expand the take-off point on the mountain.

For visitors, the appeal is twofold: the flying itself and the setting. Seasoned tandem pilots are invited from around the world to fly participants during the three- to four-day event. Visit Ghana notes that Odweanoma Mountain, though a very technical take-off point, has been regarded as one of the best places for flight experience.

The Odweanoma Mountains launch pad is also host to a receptive facility and other adventurous attractions such as an ancient cave. The source does not specify what services the receptive facility provides, so visitors should treat those details as unconfirmed.

On access, Visit Ghana advises that you may drive to Kwahu or travel by public transport via Nkawkaw. At Nkawkaw, you can board any of the numerous public transport vehicles climbing up the Kwahu mountain to Atibie. The site is listed under the categories of festival, mountain and viewpoint.
