About Twenedurase Twin Cave
Twenedurase Twin Cave, also known as Nkofieho Cave and locally as the "mystical cave," is a cave attraction at Kwahu Twenedurase in the Kwahu South Municipal District of Ghana's Eastern Region. The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly lists it among its tourist sites, and it is described as an ecotourism site of roughly 5.11 hectares at the Padlock Rock, near the town of Obo.
Reaching the cave is the defining part of a visit. The route involves a hike through forest and an uphill climb over steep, jagged rocks, with thick ropes fixed along the path as climbing aids. A tour operator states that no special skills are required to navigate inside the caves, and head torches are provided. The interior is very dark and narrow, and a wish centre sits in the middle of the passage. Making a wish is described as one of the site's most iconic traditions.
A guide is available on site; GhanaWeb TV coverage names guide Frempong Emmanuel Okyere, who describes a natural air-conditioning effect inside the cave. The cave is surrounded by cool mountain breezes. Historically, the forefathers of Twenedurase used the cave as a hideout, fortifying themselves before battle. The people of Twenedurase migrated from Adansi in the Ashanti Region sometime after 1630 and belong to the Bretuo Clan, whose symbol is the leopard, "Etwie" in Twi.
Practical information is limited. A Tripadvisor listing shows the site open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but this is community-sourced and should be confirmed locally. No visitor centre, toilets, parking or ticketing facilities were confirmed, and no step-free, wheelchair or vehicle-access information was found. Visitors park and walk or hike to the cave site; a 5 km alternative route linking Akwasiho to Twenedurase was being constructed by a Kwahu native to improve access to the area.
