Why visit
About Mount Odweanoma
Odweanoma Mountain is a peak on the Kwahu plateau in the Kwahu South Municipal District of Ghana's Eastern Region. It sits at Atibie, along the Atibie road near the villages of Obomeng and Atibiekuma, and overlooks the town of Nkawkaw. The site is also described as a viewpoint over the Kwahu ridge and the Lake Volta area.
The mountain is Ghana's main paragliding take-off point, known as the Odweanoma Mountain Paragliding Site. Tandem flights launch from the mountain ridge over the Kwahu escarpment, which is the reason most visitors come here.
Odweanoma hosts the annual Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival, organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority. The festival was formalised in 2005 and has grown into one of West Africa's major adventure tourism events. The 2026 edition ran for four days from 3 April 2026 and was opened by President John Dramani Mahama, with pilots from the United States, Peru and Ghana taking part.
Cultural programming accompanies the flights. Reported elements include street carnivals, traditional drumming and musical concerts, and food bazaars featuring Made-in-Ghana products. These are festival-period activities rather than permanent facilities, so what is available on a given day depends on the programme in force at the time.
For planning, the practical anchor is the Easter festival window, when the site is busiest and the flying programme is scheduled. Outside that period, the evidence does not establish opening hours, entry fees, booking arrangements, guiding, or on-site amenities, and none should be assumed. The verified location is Atibie in Kwahu South Municipal, reached via the Atibie road, with Nkawkaw, Obomeng and Mpraeso as the nearest named towns. Coordinates published for Atibie are town coordinates and do not identify a verified visitor entrance, so travellers should treat the exact access point as unconfirmed.
