About Mount Adaklu
Mount Adaklu is a mountain in Adaklu District in Ghana's Volta Region, roughly 12 km from Ho and rising to about 580 m above sea level. It is also known as Adaklu Toa. The Adaklu District Assembly describes it as a prominent natural landmark with bat caves and panoramic views, and the mountain is venerated by inhabitants of nearby Ewe villages. Nine communities sit at its foothills, among them Helekpe, Kordiabe, Sikama, Goefe, Awanyaviofe, Tsrefe, Agblefe, Tokor and Aboadi.
The mountain is flat-topped and, according to secondary sources, supports birds, monkeys, bats, caves and streams, and is noted locally for wild bees, palm wine and akpeteshie. The district assembly lists it under nature, mountain, cave, hiking trail, viewpoint and community tourism categories. Kalakpa Resource Reserve lies about 3 km from the foot of the mountain.
Visits are organised rather than self-guided. Mount Adaklu Hiking & Cultural Tours, a community-partnered operator working from Breeze Bar at the foot of the mountain, is certified by the Ghana Tourism Authority as a hiking and information centre, bar and restaurant. Hikes are led by local guides and begin with a safety briefing; the climb is described as moderate and suitable for most people of average fitness, taking approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to reach the summit and descend. Community police patrols are also mentioned.
Hike batches run at 06:30 and 11:30 on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, while Breeze Bar is open seven days a week. Entry fees, quoted in Ghanaian cedis as of September 2026, include guided hike orientation and site access: GHS 60 for 1–5 domestic visitors, GHS 40 for 6–20, GHS 30 for 21–50 and GHS 25 for 51–100; international rates are GHS 110, 100, 80 and 60 for the same group bands. Cash, Mobile Money and bank transfer are accepted.
Roads are described as accessible by regular vehicles, with some bumpy sections; the site can be reached by personal car, Uber or tricycle, and transport can be arranged. Beyond hiking, the operator lists cultural drumming and dance, Borborbor performances, local food tasting, biking, night walks, karaoke, video games and bonfire experiences, with guesthouses, private cabins and tents offering basic amenities. The Ghana Tourism Authority has announced plans for a paragliding site on the Adaklu ridges, with feasibility studies under way and possible operation by 2027; it is not yet operational.
