About Mafi Kumase Igneous Mountain
Mafi Kumase Igneous Mountain is an igneous rock formation at Mafi Kumase (also written Mafi-Kumase), a town in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, Ghana. Community and travel-media sources most often call it Akpokpo, with the variants Akpokpo Mountain, Akbopuor and "Mountain Akbopuor" also in use. The mountain is described in those sources as a landmark for the town and its surrounding communities.
The clearest documentation of a visit comes from a 2022 travel vlog by EfyaKimora, "We Found a Hidden MOUNTAIN in Volta Region Ghana," which records a climb of the mountain at Mafi-Kumase. The vlog describes it as a hidden mountain that "serves a lot of purposes for the people of Mafi-Kumase and its surrounding towns," and shows views over the town from the summit. Its transcript also refers to a stepped or staircase route up the mountain and to more than one peak in the area.
Local advocacy writing has framed the mountain as an unrealised asset. Facebook posts by Simon Amegashie-Viglo describe it as "the beautiful igneous mountain of Mafi Kumase in the Volta Region of Ghana" and as "a sleeping tourism giant," and urge the Central Tongu District Assembly to set up a committee to examine its tourism potential. That is an opinion and a call to action, not an official designation, and no district tourism plan or protected status for the site was found in the sources reviewed.
For a visitor, the mountain is best understood as an informal, community-used hill rather than a managed attraction. The documented experience is a climb on a stepped route to a summit with town views. No verified visitor entrance, opening hours, fees, guide arrangements, trail length, difficulty grading, facilities or safety information were found, so none can be stated here. The only coordinates available describe the town of Mafi-Kumase (approximately 6.27111, 0.56861), not a confirmed access point or summit.
Mafi-Kumase itself is a town of 2,461 people (2010 census), known for a large Monday market and for gari production, which may make a market day a practical time to combine a town visit with a look at the mountain. Anyone planning a climb should treat access details as unconfirmed and seek current local information on the ground.
