Sogakope sits on the Volta River in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, and it is a town that rewards a slow visit. The Lower Volta Bridge (Sogakope Bridge) is the landmark most travellers already know: a 650-metre crossing on the N1 highway that links Sogakope with Sokpoe, and the setting of the Easter Tortsogbeza festival. Standing on or beside it, you get the river, the traffic of a main road and a sense of how this part of Ghana connects together.
What the three places here share is football and the river. Sogakope Sports Stadium is a sports stadium in the town, while the West African Football Academy (WAFA) SC Stadium, known as WAFA Park, is a nine-hectare training campus and the home ground of West African Football Academy SC, a Ghana Premier League club. They differ in character: the bridge is a piece of highway engineering and festival ground, WAFA Park is a working club campus, and Sogakope Sports Stadium is a local ground with few verified public details. Together they make a simple, honest day out.
