Rootsyard Lodge

Roots Yard, also listed as Rootsyard Lodge, is an eco-friendly lodge in Peki-Avetile in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region. It describes itself as sitting in the heart of the Peki community, surrounded by rolling hills that run parallel to Lake Volta. The lodge is built with traditional local natural materials — mud-brick rather than cement-block, local timber, local terracotta tiles and thatch — and states that it employs its staff from Peki and sources produce locally.

Accommodation is varied. There are self-contained chalets and cabins, a larger self-contained wooden family house known as Ati Xo that sleeps four to six, and a dormitory with a shared shower and washroom. A campsite accommodates guests bringing their own tent, or using an operator tent, and the lodge is described as overlander-friendly. All rooms have beds with mosquito nets and fans. Published rates include a double self-contained room at $27 per night, the Ati Xo wooden house at $35 per night with extra mattresses at $6 each, a dormitory bed with shared bath at $10, and camping with your own tent at $8 per person per night; breakfast is not included.

Food is a defining feature. The on-site restaurant is vegetarian and serves strictly vegan, ITAL food and drinks. Guests may cook for themselves in the yard using their own utensils, but no meat or fish may be brought in, though eggs and cow's milk are permitted in guests' own cooking. The lodge also advertises tours and attractions, bamboo bikes, volunteer opportunities, and tree-planting and community food-growing projects.

For access, the lodge is on the Akosombo–Hohoe Road, just after GOVCO junction and between GOVCO Junction and the Peki Government Hospital Junction, with a "ROOTS" sign marking the entrance. Bookings and information are handled by phone or text and by email; calls are taken between 8AM and 7PM, while SMS can be sent at any time. The lodge positions itself for exploring Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, Afadzato, and Wli Falls.
