Why visit

About Mole Museum

The Mole Museum, also called the Mole National Park Museum, is a small museum housed inside the Park's Information Centre at the Mole National Park Headquarters in the West Gonja District of Ghana's Savannah Region. It is a museum rather than a standalone building, so a visit to it is part of a stop at the Information Centre rather than a separate outing.

The museum is laid out in two spaces: a main exposition room and a multimedia room. The official park site describes it as a significant component of the park and a contributor to its standing as a major attraction in Ghana and West Africa, offering visitors a simple but very educational visual engagement with the biodiversity and ecology of Mole National Park and its fringe communities. For a visitor, that makes it a useful orientation point — a place to look at the park's ecology in a visual, indoor setting before or after time in the field.

The Information Centre that houses the museum is managed by the Wildlife Division and serves as the main interface between the park and its visitors. Alongside the museum rooms, it contains an information desk where tour fees are paid and where guides brief visitors before safaris, an air-conditioned 120-seater conference room, a convenience shop selling soft drinks, water and visitor supplies, and an arts and crafts shop selling local and northern Ghanaian souvenirs.

The museum is open daily from 9:00am until 5:00pm, according to the official park website. The park headquarters lies about 146 km south-west of Tamale. The single main park entrance is 3 km from Larabanga off the Damongo–Sawla road, and Larabanga is roughly a ten-minute drive from the park. The official contact page still lists the postal address as Damongo, Northern Region, reflecting the region's earlier name.
