About Kparia Waterfalls

Kparia Waterfalls is a waterfall on the Kparia river inside Mole National Park, Ghana's largest protected area, in the Savannah Region. It draws its source from the Konkori Escarpment. The park authority describes it as roughly 20 metres high, falling in two segments: the fall itself and a pool at the base. The pool makes swimming possible, and the evergreen forest around it is described as suitable for camping and as habitat for fauna. Waterfalls are rare in northern Ghana; the Forestry Commission notes Mole is privileged to have two, the Polzen and Kparia falls.

The falls are an eco-tourism product developed through collaboration between the Kparia community and park management. The tour includes a community or local guide from Kparia and a visit to the Kparia old settlement, where old caves and graves are still visible. A 2022 GBC report describes two separate waterfalls, the first dropping from the apex of the mountains into a valley of stacked rocks and varied tree species, and a hike to the top revealing rock formations, some shaped like animals, plus an area within the rocks where visitors can relax.

This is a remote, demanding trip rather than a roadside stop. The official park site puts Kparia about five hours' drive from the Information Centre, and the park's driving-time table lists it at five hours. Trips are organised from the Information Centre, depart at 6:00am, run for two days, and are offered in the active season of January to June. A 4x4 vehicle or motorbike is required. Visitors may drive through the park boundary, with a break at Bawena Range camp, or through communities via Daboya. GBC reported the Daboya–Kparia road as bad, a further 30-minute drive from Kparia town to the waterfall, and a hike through roots and rocks; reaching the second fall involved a slippery walk through streams where a guide's assistance matters.

No visitor amenities are documented at the falls, and no fixed opening hours are published. Visitors are advised to bring water, food, protective wear, closed footwear, a tent or mosquito net, insect repellent, warm bedding and clothing, a bright torchlight, and a camping mat or mattress. Overnight options listed are Kparia community home stays, Hotel Wasipe at Daboya, or the Bawena camp guest house. No wheelchair or step-free access information was found.
