Hohoe Sports Stadium

Hohoe Sports Stadium is a municipal multi-purpose sports ground in Hohoe, in the Hohoe Municipality of Ghana's Volta Region. It was officially opened on Saturday 30 November 2024, at a ceremony reported to have drawn more than 7,000 people. The programme included an inaugural match between a former Black Stars select side and a Hohoe XI, which finished 4-1. Among the guests were Abedi Ayew Pele and Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku.

The stadium's history is long and interrupted. Construction was initiated in 2005 by John Peter Amewu while he was Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, stalled after 2008, and resumed after 2017. Amewu credited chiefs, landowners and private donors, including Togbe Adzema and the late Gbi Paramount Chief Togbega Gabusu, for helping the project reach completion.

For visitors, the main draw is football. The facility has a FIFA-standard AstroTurf pitch, alongside basketball, lawn tennis and volleyball courts, so it functions as a general recreation venue rather than a football ground alone. It is the home venue of Hohoe United, who confirmed it for their 2025/26 Ghana Premier League debut season. Kpando Hearts of Lions had earlier used the ground when facing venue issues of their own.

Two practical points deserve caution. Reported seating capacity is inconsistent across sources, given variously as 5,000, 7,000, 10,000 and 15,000, so no single figure should be treated as settled. MyJoyOnline also reported that the stadium was about 90% complete at inauguration, with the VIP stand still outstanding. Visitors should therefore expect a working but still-developing venue.

The setting is Hohoe town in the Hohoe Municipal District, Volta Region. A directory listing gives the address as 5F55+3WH, Hohoe, Ghana. No verified opening hours, ticket prices or event calendar were available in the evidence reviewed, so anyone planning around a specific match or visit should confirm details locally before travelling.
