About CRIG Golf Club

CRIG Golf Club, also known as Tafo Golf Club, is a golf club and nine-hole course on the grounds of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) at New Tafo-Akim, in the Abuakwa North Municipal District of the Eastern Region. The club was established in 1947 as part of the West African Cocoa Research Institute (WACRI) and describes itself as one of the oldest golf clubs in Ghana. It began as a recreational facility for institute staff and now welcomes members from all walks of life.

The club's own account describes a championship course of nine holes with newly developed putting greens, strategic water hazards including the Beyira stream, and fairways of Tafo grass (Chrysopogon aciculatus) set within the natural landscape of the Eastern Region. Beyond casual play, it lists membership options, regular tournaments and social events, and a junior golf programme for players aged 11 to 17 that provides equipment, training and monthly competitions.

Two fixtures stand out in the club's calendar: the annual Tafo Open and the Okyenhene Invitational Golf tournament. The 13th Tafo Open, in 2009, was attended by the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and the 2019 Okyenhene Invitational drew more than 90 golfers from across Ghana, according to press coverage. CRIG is described in that coverage as owner of the facility, and the course is noted for its serene natural setting.

For planning, the club's contact page lists opening hours of 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday to Friday and 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, with the address given as Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana Golf Club, New Tafo-Akim, Eastern Region. Contact details published there are [email protected] and +233 24 206 6697, with the club's website at criggolfclub.com. A secondary golf directory places the course about 30 minutes' drive from Koforidua.

Visitors should treat the published hours, contact details and programme arrangements as subject to change and confirm directly with the club before travelling. Green fees, caddie arrangements, dress requirements, booking procedures and visitor access to the CRIG grounds are not established by the available sources.
