About Asenema Waterfalls

Asenema Waterfall is a natural waterfall in the rainforest of the Akuapem Hills in Ghana's Eastern Region, in Okere District near Asenema and Adukrom. It sits at roughly 245 metres above sea level on a tributary of the Ayensu River, north of Aburi and about 15 minutes from Akropong. The Okere District Assembly, which manages the site with traditional authorities and local stakeholders, describes it as one of the most visited tourist sites in the district.

The falls are seasonal. Flow is strongest in the rainy season, when the stream below the cascade is described as lively; at other times of year visitors should expect less water. The site is presented as a nature and community tourism destination, and it is also listed as a hiking trail.

Access is by a short marked walk from the main road. Visit Ghana and Tripadvisor's listing both describe a five-minute walk along a marked trail, while an operator guide describes a longer forest trail of roughly 1.5 km each way descending to the pool, with uneven rocky sections and a steep final descent. The shorter figure is the better corroborated one; the longer trail description is uncorroborated. No information on step-free or wheelchair access was found.

A two-tier community fee applies, collected at the trailhead, with a guide included: Ghanaian adults GH₵20 and non-Ghanaian adults GH₵50, and GH₵10 or GH₵25 for children and students depending on nationality. These figures are dated 2025–2026 and should be confirmed locally.

The district assembly has carried out renovations at the site, including a new pay point and the planting of medicinal herbs and trees. Opening hours, safety guidance and facilities are not documented in the sources reviewed, so visitors should treat those as unknown and plan accordingly.
