About Agbesia Caves
Agbesia Caves are rock caves at the base of Aflabo Falls, near the community of Leklebi Agbesia in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region. They are reached on foot as part of the Aflabo Falls hike, and the caves and the waterfall are visited together rather than as separate stops.
Local accounts, as reported in a December 2025 visitor vlog, hold that the caves once served as storage spaces for harvested grain. The same source records a local account that the falls were revealed to the community by a hunter who came upon them while tracking game. Discovery material describes the caves as dating back more than 150 years, but no authoritative source confirms that age, so the caves' history should be treated as locally told rather than documented.
The setting is a small border community near Togo, surrounded by dense green mountains and coffee and cocoa farms. Leklebi Agbesia is described as searchable on Google Maps and roughly three hours' travel from Accra. No coordinates are confirmed for the caves themselves.
Access is on foot only, by guided hike from Leklebi Agbesia. The hike is rated moderately intense and takes roughly one hour 45 minutes to two hours, with steep sections and slippery terrain; hiking boots are advised. No paved path, vehicle access or wheelchair accessibility is described.
A tour fee was reported in December 2025 at US$3 for Ghanaian citizens and US$5 for non-citizens. This is a single visitor account rather than an official tariff, and it may have changed. Opening hours, guide arrangements and booking procedures are not confirmed by any source reviewed.
