About Afadzato South District Assembly

The Afadzato South District Assembly is the local government authority for Afadzato South District, also known as Afadzato Anyigbe, in the Volta Region of Ghana. Its administrative capital is Ve-Golokuati, where the assembly's council office is based. The district was carved out of the former Hohoe District and established by Legislative Instrument 2079, inaugurated on 28 June 2012.

For visitors, the assembly is best understood as the administrative body whose area contains the district's attractions rather than as an attraction in itself. The assembly states that the district has tourist attractions drawing thousands of tourists from across the globe, and it lists a Tourist Attraction department or unit and a Tourism Center among its services. It also describes the district as endowed with eco-tourism attractions, including Mount Afadza, Ghana's highest peak, Tagbo Waterfalls, Aflabo Waterfalls and the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, alongside intangible cultural tourism such as the Agbonutoza, Lukusi and Tafi Abuife Kente festivals. The assembly's stated mission includes becoming a leading tourist centre in Ghana and preserving cultural heritage.

The district covers 553.0 sq km, about 3.06% of the Volta Region's land area. It borders the Republic of Togo to the east, Ho West District to the southeast, South Dayi District to the southwest, Hohoe Municipal to the north, and Kpando Municipal and North Dayi District to the northwest. It operates six sub-districts or area councils: Have/Nyagbo, Logba-Tafi, Weto, Leklebi, Ve and Liati.

Ve-Golokuati lies roughly 58 km from Ho, 20 km from Hohoe and 200 km from Accra. The council address is P.O. Box 645, Ve-Golokuati, Afadzato South District, Volta Region, Ghana, with digital address VF-0000-6173. Contact details published by the assembly are (+233) 55 906 5154 and [email protected].
