Wenchi New Market

Wenchi New Market is the main marketplace of Wenchi, the capital of Wenchi Municipal District in Ghana's Bono Region. It is described as a major trading hub in the region, with vendors selling foodstuffs, textiles, farm produce, handmade crafts and household goods. Locally it is also known as the Wenchi Thursday Central Market or Thursday New Market, a name that reflects its weekly Thursday market day.

The market's standing within the municipality is documented in Ghana's Composite Budget for Wenchi Municipal (2025–2028), which records two main markets in the district, Wenchi and Subinso, with Nchiraa and Botenso as minor ones. The same budget notes that the Assembly built three open market sheds at the Wenchi market, for maize sellers, yam sellers and second-hand cloth dealers.

A national 24-Hour Economy Model Market project is under construction at the Wenchi Thursday Central Market site. The Wenchi Traditional Council, led by Omanhene Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, approved the site at a meeting with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly on 9 April 2026. A GNA site visit reported in June 2026 that about 20 percent of construction was complete after two months, with contractors Crexcon Ghana Limited. Planned components include lockable stores, police and fire service posts, a creche, clinic, warehouses, a livestock market, changing rooms, an information centre, trading spaces and a bus terminal. Model markets are expected to cover at least four acres.

Wenchi lies in the middle belt of the Bono Region, roughly 30 km north of Techiman on the Techiman–Upper East road.
