About Bowiri Abohire Waterfall

Bowiri Abohire Waterfalls is a natural waterfall in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, Ghana, in the locality of Bowiri Abohire. The District Assembly describes it as a perennial fall, meaning it is not dependent on a single rainy season, and promotes it alongside a nearby cave as one of the district's tourist sites.

The falls sit in a hilly, mountain setting surrounded by tropical rainforest-type vegetation. Reporting describes howler monkeys and birds in the surrounding forest. The Digest characterises the falls as spectacular but not as tall as Wli or Liate, and notes that they form a pool that is not yet considered safe for swimming. Visitors should treat the pool as a viewing feature rather than a swimming spot.

Getting there involves road travel followed by a walk. The site is reached by road via Kwamekrom, the economic capital of Bowiri, roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive away. From the roadside, the falls are about a 25 minute walk along a community-created path that runs under forest canopy. Reports differ on the exact approach road, described variously as the Kwamekrom–Okadjakrom road and the Takrabe road, so the final route should be confirmed locally before travelling.

No formal accessibility provision, such as wheelchair access, was found, and no visitor facilities — changing rooms, toilets or guides — are documented. Practical details such as opening hours, entry fees and guided options are not established in the available sources.

The site has been developed with the involvement of local chiefs, elders and the Biakoye District Assembly. In 2019 the assemblyman for the area, Hon. Amantekyi Godwin, was reported to have campaigned with chiefs and residents to develop the falls, with investors expressing interest. In 2022 the District Chief Executive, Hon. Millicent Kabuki Carboo, described Abohire Waterfalls as already functioning within the district.
