About UMaT Waterfall

The UMaT Waterfall is a waterfall on the campus of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa, in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of Ghana's Western Region. It is also referred to in university material as the UMaT Waterfall Enclave, a name that reflects the small protected area around the falls rather than a separate site.

Its setting is institutional rather than commercial. UMaT's own SDG reporting states that the university is "creating and maintaining a buffer zone to preserve a small waterfall on campus" — a description that places the falls within a deliberately managed strip of campus land. The university's news pages locate the enclave inside the UMaT campus at Tarkwa, and mapping records identify a waterfall node at approximately 5.3008° N, 2.0031° W, close to the university and to campus sports facilities.

The waterfall has an established public role in the university's calendar. UMaT held World Water Day 2022 events at the enclave with the Water Resources Commission, including tree planting and the installation of buffer-zone signposts. The university's events listing gives the venue for the 2023 World Water Day celebration as "UMaT Waterfall", with tree planting and clean-up exercises at "UMaT Waterfalls" on 18 March 2023. In 2024, a Stakeholders Durbar was convened at the UMaT Waterfall on 22 March to mark World Water Day.

For a visitor, that record is the most reliable guide to what the place is: a campus waterfall used for environmental education, commemorative events and buffer-zone conservation, rather than a developed visitor attraction. UMaT's own photo captions describe "A Close View of the Waterfall" and "A View of UMaT Waterfall Enclave", indicating that the falls and their immediate surroundings are the points of interest.

Practical details are limited in the available sources. No opening hours, entry fees, guided-tour arrangements, trail conditions or facilities are documented here, and access is not confirmed for the general public, since the waterfall lies within a university campus. Visitors should treat any campus visit as subject to the university's permission and current arrangements, and should confirm access directly with UMaT before planning a trip.
