About Okuapeman Palace
Okuapeman Palace, also called the Okuapehene's Palace, is the traditional palace of the Akuapem people and the seat of the Okuapehene, the paramount chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area. It stands at Akropong, the capital of both the Akuapem Traditional Area and the Akuapim North District in Ghana's Eastern Region.
The palace serves as the official office and residence of the reigning Okuapehene. The official Okuapehene website identifies Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III as the current, 26th occupant of the Ofori Kuma stool of Akuapem and king of the Akuapems.
Akropong itself is a historic hill town in the Akuapem hills. It is known as a Basel Mission station site and as home to institutions including the Presbyterian Training College, established in 1848, and Okuapeman Secondary School. That context helps explain why the town and its chieftaincy seat are often described together as a place of Akuapem heritage.
The palace forecourt is the setting for public and cultural events tied to Akuapem chieftaincy and the Odwira festival cycle. The Akuapem Odwira Festival is celebrated predominantly by the Akuapem people of the Eastern Region, especially in Akropong, and its 199th edition was held at the forecourt of the Okuapem Traditional Council in Akropong-Akuapem.
Directory listings describe the palace as a symbol of Akuapem cultural heritage and history and as a significant tourist attraction in the region. Visitors should note, however, that no official operator source confirming visitor access, tours, or opening arrangements was located during research. The palace is a working traditional and administrative seat, so any visit should be planned around that fact rather than assumed.
Practical details remain unconfirmed. The exact street address and coordinates of the palace were not verified by a read source, and no verified information on admission, guided tours, or visiting hours is available. Travellers should treat access as unknown and seek current guidance locally before planning a visit.
