About Cathedral of Saint Andrew

St. Andrew's Cathedral is the Roman-Rite cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wa, in the Upper West Region of Ghana. It stands in Wa, the regional capital, and takes St. Andrew as its patron. As a cathedral, it is the bishop's seat for the diocese rather than a parish church, which gives it a distinct role in the Catholic life of northern Ghana.

The Diocese of Wa belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Tamale. It was established on 3 November 1959 from the Diocese of Tamale, and it covers roughly 18,476 square kilometres, with about 343,240 Catholics recorded as of 2014 — a little over 41 percent of the population in that area. The current bishop is Francis Bomansaan, M. Afr., a member of the Missionaries of Africa, also known as the White Fathers.

For a visitor, the cathedral's interest is twofold: it is an active place of worship, and it is a piece of the region's modern heritage. The Missionaries of Africa are associated with its construction, and one operator page describes it as the largest all-stone church built by the White Fathers in West Africa. That claim comes from a discovery snippet whose page could not be read in full, so it should be treated as unconfirmed rather than stated as fact.

The building is listed at 3G62+H77 Wa Na Palace, on Wa–Mase Road in Wa, in Wa Municipal District. The coordinates used here are feature coordinates for the church, not a confirmed visitor entrance, so anyone planning a visit should treat the exact gate or entry point as unverified.

Practical details are limited. No opening hours, entry fees, guided-tour arrangements, accessibility information or visitor facilities are documented in the available sources. Because this is a working cathedral, the sensible approach is to plan around its liturgical life rather than assume museum-style visiting hours, and to confirm locally before travelling. Tripadvisor lists the cathedral among churches and cathedrals in the Upper West Region, but with only a single rating, which is not enough to characterise the visitor experience.
