About Akatsi North District Assembly
Akatsi North District Assembly is the local government authority for Akatsi North District, one of eighteen districts in the Volta Region of Ghana. Its offices are in Ave-Dakpa, the district capital, in the southeast part of the region. The Local Government Service of Ghana lists the district with the capital Ave-Dakpa.
The district was created on 28 June 2012 by splitting the northern part of the former Akatsi District, which had been created on 10 March 1989 from the Anlo District Council; the remaining part became Akatsi South District. The district covers about 448 square kilometres and recorded a population of 32,541 at the 2021 census.
For visitors, the assembly is chiefly useful as a starting point for orientation and enquiries rather than as an attraction in itself. Its official website, akatsinorth.gov.gh, publishes news, notices, documents and a directory of "Interesting Places". That directory and the assembly's tourism news cover the Ave Crocodile Resort, also known as the Ave Dakpa Crocodile Pond, described in national planning documents as the district's major tourism attraction and an ecotourism facility on the banks of the Ave River, home to Nile crocodiles. It was established as an eco-tourism facility in 2017 after consultations between traditional authorities and the assembly, was closed by the Ghana Tourism Authority in 2021, and was preparing to reopen under safety measures. Visitors should confirm current opening status directly before travelling.
The assembly handles public enquiries and services including client service, payment points and burial permits. Contact details published by the assembly are P.O. Box 19, Ave Dakpa; telephone 0362291117; email [email protected]; and a Facebook page at facebook.com/Akatsinorth. The office carries the Ghana Post GPS address VW-0030-7995. Mapping data places the assembly building at approximately 6.3749657, 0.8481205, while district-level coordinates are given as 6.362667, 0.862583.
Practical planning notes: the assembly's website lists verified pages including about, contacts, a departments and units section, and a 2025 fee-fixing resolution, which is where published fees and permits are set out. No opening hours, admission prices or guided-tour arrangements are confirmed in the available sources, so these should be checked with the assembly before a visit.
